Like so many hopefuls before her, Melanie Torres moved to Nashville in pursuit of a dream.
The move from her hometown in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Music City almost four years ago was the first big step for the classically trained vocalist toward the realization of her dream. The road to success was paved long before she moved to Nashville. Reared in a musical family, Melanie comes from a long line of musicians and singers going back four generations. Melanie’s great-grandfather was a musician who played traditional spanish music. Likewise, her grandfather and uncles carried on the tradition. Her grandfather's band titled Los Paisanos Nortenos played in clubs across the northwest. He continues to sing hits of yesterday such as Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson and Elvis Presley to elderly groups and young children in Albuquerque. Before Melanie was born her father was a professional musician and drummer who played country and top 40 hits in New Mexico for many years. Family reunions were always an occasion to play and sing both in English and Spanish.
